The landscape is an opportunity to experiment innovative planning and design approaches for fragile territories. Among these, river networks are included, also crossing urban spaces. Due to climate changes, they have become favourite settings to simultaneously implement territorial and local strategies. River Contracts can be identified as a process, involving different intervention scales, able to solve the complex system of relationships between all involved components.

Keywords: landscape; river districts; strategic and local planning tools; river contracts.
