The paper analyzes the relationship between interpretation and construction, underlining the conjectural value of constructions. The author traces the Freudian conceptualization of interpretation and construction in relation to dreams, transference and resistance, which must be taken into consideration as a priority. The vision of the Kleinian school is also critically explored, specifically regarding the emphasis on the need to provide systematic transference interpretations, which tends to excessively personalize the transference, overriding its value of repetition of the past. Starting from the vision of the French school and Winnicott, it is underlined how the main task of the analytical work is to facilitate the transformation of instinctual impulses into representations to subsequently make them accessible to interpretation. Starting from the difference between interpretation and construction, emphasis is also placed on their different use in neurotic and non-neurotic structures.

Keywords: interpretation, construction, resistance, transference, repetition, instincts.
