Presentazione:
In 1984, Jacqueline Morineau was asked to organise the first experience of penal mediation for adults at a Court in Paris. This experience has continued to this day, enabling mediation to be developed in most courts in France. The aim was to offer more humanity, in response to the call for help in the case of situations of conflict, and to allow people to express themselves about the suffering which is so often concealed behind violence. Thus a new form of mediation was developed, more to pacify the soul and transform people’s behaviour than to solve conflicts. Humanist Mediation sets out to respond to the crisis of our modern society, which all too often expresses its existential vacuum through unruly behaviour. The loss of a sense of values and of life itself has led us to expect justice to go beyond the sentence to provide real education, so as to rediscover a sense of equity, truth and dignity, values which were at the heart of the conception of justice at its origins.
