The observation of mother-child interactions and the use of the experimental paradigm of the still-face have deepened our knowledge about primitive reciprocal emotional regulation, which is related to the later psychological development of the child and his/her style of "being-with". The capacity to repair relational breaches is particularly important, and it suggests interesting comparisons with the therapeutic situation.
