Existential sadness and recourse to the writing. Sadness is often considered a negative feeling, something that could be an obstacle to the daily life experience. It, however, also remind to an uneasy existential vibration indispensable to give sense to his/her own existence: sadness is as complex as fundamental. Sadness is a state of mind that allows subject to be connected with the deepest part of itself. In this article, beginning from a reflection on the etymological origin of the term, Duccio Demetrio investigates the sadness rediscovering its potentialities in increasing an evolutionary vitality to the self-construction of the subject. Demetrio concludes by highlighting the importance of a self-knowledge that find in writing an important instrument to connect that feeling whit the whole life history of the subject, a feeling that preludes to a construction of something new.
