This paper points out the extremely important role played by the agricultural sector inside more sustainable growth processes. To fulfil this task, however, there is the need for farming to take action on national and European corporate models, on credit, training policies, investments in technology and infrastructure and promote a higher orientation towards integrated operations systems. Only in this way agriculture can remain competitive and contribute actively to the preservation of local identities, the ecosystem, civic and cultural values of traditional rural communities.
