Francesco Benigno’s book, Parole nel tempo, is an ambitious attempt to analyze some key concepts of current historical debates through a direct dialogue with social sciences, anthropology and sociology above all. This paper highlights those which, in the opinion of the A., are the fundamental methodological options that support the lemmas investigated in the volume. First, it is a pluralistic view of society, rejecting macro-ascriptive categories in favour of the interplay among the different social groups; second, it is the adoption out-and-out of the linguistic turn in the analysis of different social contexts; and finally, it is an ‘open’ idea of politics, characterized by the interaction of differing and conflicting wills, even when the notion of sovereignty prevails in the doctrine.
