The Author re-considers D. Schreber’s "Denkwürdigkeiten eines Nervenkranken" and the various observations that a number of authors - Freud first of al - have developed on the case of President Schreber, in order to suggest a reflexion about his delirium. She points out that he knew unconsciously that everyone needs a parental couple to survive, and so he created that couple by his delirium. This was the patient’s effort for his own restoration. In that sense the case of President Schreber testifies that the concept of "paternal" it’s an intrinsically relational concept, a couple-embedded feature. If the couple does not exist, one must create it by a delirium. Otherwise, he will surrene to the nihilation made by one parent who overwhelms and abuses the child’s embrional mind.
