The story-telling activity and the art of listening. Human beings are characterized by an unin-terrupted story-telling activity: from cradle to tomb each of us narrates stories and listens to stories. This unceasing narration transforms the world and bestows a sense upon it, alt-hough provisional and always pursued. Moreover, inhabiting the stories, each of us multi-plies his own life, escaping from the unique existence given to him or her by destiny. The im-age of the world created by the narratives accompanies the image supplied by science, that longs for being rational and without residues, but is itself permeated with emotions. Today, thanks to information technology, story-telling takes on new forms: communication channels are multiplied and dialoguing audiences are huge, and this brings about positive effects but also negative ones. As to the future, many questions are unsolved, first of all if narration will continue to be a source of sense and dialogue. The essay ends with three short stories, para-digmatic of three different patterns of narration: from cosmogonic detachment to probing into the intimacy of feelings, through a story about story-telling.

Keywords: Narration, sense, intimacy, rationality, transfiguration.
