The national air transport segment is an economic sector that has always been characterized by the pervasive presence of the State. The liberalization process desired by the European Union and the consequent privatization which, in our country, also involved the former flag carrier has led to a progressive but substantial reduction in state participation in the business of airplane transport. The COVID-19 pandemic, preceded by the economic crisis, laid the foundations for a "return" to significant forms of public intervention.
