In the light of the new value creation patterns these enterprises are also reshaping their relationships with the other agri-food stakeholders by adopting socially responsible behaviour. In this widely changed but still evolving context, agri-food enterprises have therefore been demonstrating socially responsible attitudes towards the common good and social welfare leading to a new business ethical dimension, known as social responsibility. A new vision of agri-food enterprises is therefore established. In fact, they are reconsidered as a set of tangible and intangible value chains and their related governance structures, the composition and extent there of being determined by specific groups of variables which create an "optimal value portfolio". In the light of this analytical perspectives, the aim of this paper is to contribute to the theoretical agricultural economic debate and analyse social responsibility as a sustainability strategy and value creation means for agri-food enterprises and as a competitive factor within developed economies. Hence the theoretical-methodological approach of this paper has defined new interpretation models of sustainable agri-food enterprises and their related strategic behaviour which is ethically driven and adopted for value creation purposes in the light of the current social, economic, environmental and territorial issues. The theoretical and methodological results thus provide a further development in the analysis of value creation models in agri-food systems by opening new research avenues. Moreover, they also offer new insights for policy makers and practitioners as they contribute to the debate on the role of policies to support enterprises? socially responsible actions and the definition of new guidelines for agri-food system actors. Abstract: Modern lifestyle is one among the most relevant causes of alimentary disorder and environmental problems. Preventing both of them implies a win-win strategy for the improvement of social wellness (i.e. health and environmental benefits). A suitable strategy could be addressed to the partial substitution of caloric food (e.g. beef meat), which is also responsible for a large amount of greenhouse gas (ghgs) emissions, with less caloric food (e.g. vegetables), which is proved of exerting a lower impact on climate change. The analysis is referred to the Italian case study, based on data from the Italian Statistical Institute (istat). The relationship between obesity and ghgs emissions is here explained experimentally through a 5-stage methodology. In the first step, a regression model (ols method) is adopted to explain obesity rate in terms of ratio of people consuming meat more than once a week, and the ratio of people consuming vegetables less than once a day. The outcome of this analysis allows simulating a policy target in terms of obesity abatement, provided by a reasonable change in food demand. In the third step, a meta-analysis of Life Cycle Assessment (lca) studies has been performed in order to calculate the CO2 emissions of the food types we considered. In the fourth step, the observed change in food demand from the previous step is combined with lca indicators, in order to evaluate the impact of food industry on climate change. Finally, in the fifth step, the benefits of the obesity reduction are calculated considering the cost saving for health care of the obesity, which amounts to 1.700 Eur per person. In addition, the value of the CO2 emission have been compared with the value of the European Union Allowance (eua) of CO2 emissions, which was evaluated in 2009 in terms of 21.45 eur/t CO2. Consequently, we found that the effect of the policy can be estimated in terms of 1,032 Million eur, of which the impacts on human health is the most important (about 1.020 Million eur). The study shows the evidence that the consumption of food with low content of calories has a most relevant effect in the reduction of obesity, but very limited economic effect in terms of CO2 emissions. We also examined: (i) the level of sensitivity and knowledge of consumers with regard to the impacts of agro-food system in terms of environmental pollution; (ii) consumers? perception of the effects produced by food transportation; (iii) the degree of importance that consumers attach to information directly or indirectly related to the sustainability of a food product. We conducted a quantitative survey in Naples (Italy) using a discrete choice approach. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis techniques (frequencies) and the estimation of the multinomial logit model (mnl). The results of the univariate analysis show that respondents actually perceive food products distribution as the phase that causes a high negative impact on the environment. The results of the mnl model suggest that on average consumers choices are affected by all the attributes of fresh tomato included in the experimental design. However. a comparison across different fresh tomato attributes suggests that respondents in our sample get the highest utility when nkm label is present, followed by the presence of other sustainability-linked attributes such as organic, CO2. In postmodern society the act of consumption becomes an expression of culture and identity creation, products as material objects lose their importance and they become marks, symbols and a way to communicate personality. These phenomenons are difficult to interpret with the standard theory of neoclassical consumer, although several attempts in this direction have been carried out. For example, the proposal to introduce a function of happiness to express the features and behavior of the postmodern consumer is a possibility to be explored but certainly not yet a new theory. In the first part of the report the concept of postmodernism, its origin and evolution is discussed. Later, in the light of this new interpretative key the changing role of the consumer is analyzed. Finally, as case studies, the strategies of modern distribution and the problem oftypical Italian food products in foreign markets are also discussed. All the analysed cases, illustrate very well the traditional rules can lead to political intervention pontentially erroneous, as for example, an excess of expenditure in food safety policy or policies of the national mark. At the national level but also from Europe we are witnessing a change in consumer behavior: they become more and more relevant information needs, safety and food security, increasing demand for quality products and the willingness to pay for those products that meet consumer expectations. The paper focuses on the perceived quality of local products in order to identify those variables that influence purchasing decisions and dietary habits and consumer group. The survey was conducted using a principal components analysis to summarize the information that characterizes the choices of consumption, followed by cluster analysis which allowed us to confirm the presence of different segments of consumers of local products. It is very interesting in terms of management, size (number of firms and consumers members involved) and relative growth rates. The analysis was carried out by systematising data and quantitative information available at godo and by administering questionnaires to consumers members in order to collect information about socio-economic characteristics and consumer behaviour. Then, the consumer profiles have been identified by the application of the Cluster Analysis. At last, the consumer profiles analysis has allowed us to formulate some suggestions in order to improve godo?s organization. Un?analisi empirica Abstract: According to the new organic (Regulation (ec) No 834/2007, a mandatory eu logo for organic food was introduced as well as new guidelines to label organic products. In the new labelling the indication of origin of the raw materials is compulsory: ?eu Agriculture?, ?non-eu Agriculture? or ?eu/non-eu Agriculture?. When all agricultural raw materials came from the same country, the terms ?eu? and ?non-eu? can be replaced or supplemented by the name of that country. The name of the Organic certifier can be also signalled to final consumers by the product labelling. In some eu countries (Denmark and Germany) the product label based on a third-party certification, private or public, make them trust the underlying certification scheme. Although consumers often lack knowledge on organic certification and organic farming practices in general, several studies highlight that scepticism and uncertainty towards organic logos and certification prevent consumers from buying more organic food. The present study analyses how consumers perceive some of the most important aspect of the new labelling regulation (the origin of raw materials and the organic certifier for organic food). Few studies exist on consumer views on organic labelling for organic food and willingness to pay for trust in the organic food quality (Burrell et al., 2006). The recommendations drawn from our findings can help stakeholders in the Italian organic sector. 415 consumers in three Italian locations (Ancona, Milano, Bari) participated to a survey in March 2010. The results show that the organic consumers prefer organic products from Europe and trust products certified by Italian (more than from foreign countries) and public certification bodies (more than private). These findings suggest the need for transparency of the complexity of the organic certification and accreditation system, unknown to most of the consumers. There is a need to make them clear what the new label characteristics stand for and remove consumer concerns of the standards and the trustworthiness of the inspection system. Il Caso delle arance di Ribera dop e possibili strategie di mercato Abstract: In a time of evolution of demand towards new features and new functions for food, both producers and consumers focus more and more on human health and on environmental protection. The citrus industry has not escaped these changes in demand, also because of the eu policies that have led to greater use of the processed product at the expense of fresh one. Sicily, which for these productions has higher quality standards than its competitors, aims to develop the sector, with investments in promotion, brand protection and quality certifications, with the introduction of the dop "Arancia di Ribera". In this context Sicilian producers of oranges are aware that it?s very important to pay attention to consumer protection and health, because this elements may be a key factor for competition. This paper aims to know the orange consumer interest for certain elements that make him feel confident about quality food. The use of Cluster Analysis give us an empirical confirmation of the various types of consumers based on their level of awareness for food qualities that provide human health, confidence and environmental protection. Abstract: After the sharp increase in agricultural commodity prices during 2007, agricultural markets seem to have entered in the era of structural instability. There are different reasons, like growth in food demand, markets structure and trade policies. The increase in price volatility has implications for all stakeholders in the food chain. Especially for farmers, who are affected by both market power problems and imperfect price transmission. This topic is now at the center of the European debate on the future of Common Agricultural Policy (cap). In particular, after the crisis in the dairy sector in 2009 has been started a comprehensive discussion in Europe, which led to the first legislative step aimed at strengthening the prerogatives of producers in the primary sector. The work aims to provide both an overview of these phenomena and the implications for European policy maker, now engaged in reforming the cap. Today, the debate at national and European level is amplified in relation to the need to reshape agricultural policy after 2013. The awareness of the failure of the decoupled aid as well as it was conceived, focuses on the effects that a change of this intervention tool could generate both at farm and territorial scale. This study emphasizes these issues by proposing a cognitive analysis considering and studying the financial flows within the first pillar received by each farm in Tuscany. The first objective of this research is to analyze the current situation of the decoupled aid in order to highlight potential problems at farm or territorial scale. The second objective of this proposal is to simulate different scenarios to examine the effects of regionalization of the aid. As a matter of fact, on an even programming stage it is very important to provide strategic information to the public decisionmaker who must negotiate at political phase the final choices between the various proposals. Un modello di intervento in Basilicata Abstract: The crisis in the agricultural sector in the last two years has highlighted the need to help business operators through actions that improve system efficiency and reduce costs, including through tax, financial and administrative concessions. Especially in more specialized areas, can be representative in this sense the experience of industrial districts, business networks and supply chains, in relation to which the national legislation provides tax, administrative, financial and support for research & development benefits. Specifically, it is crucial to define, in the light of the federal reform in place, the best practices that allow the definition of a model district, as a form of territorial organization of local development, such as to maximize the economic and fiscal benefits provided by Financial Laws for 2006 and 2008/09, the Law 133 of 2008 and so-colled anticrisis Law and the possible opportunities arising from the implementation of federal reforms and their impact locally. The research takes as the territorial area Lucania of Metapontino, which were promoted with great ability concertation, several partnerships in the food industry: the Agrifood District of Quality, Integrated Food Chain Projects, Programs for Local Development of the Local Action Groups. The results show, firstly, the importance of the district and food chains for the value of the area by improving the organization of business functions and governance. On the other hand, show how, through the implementation of an empirical model built on data of the regional economy, some political relief, through reduction of the interventions of social charges on the firm and the worker, may, in a perspective of local government federal, cause a positive impact on the local component of the value added and, therefore, income from capital and labor. Therefore, cooperation between the food sector stakeholders see that the variable tax tables included in the bargaining at the local level could certainly be successful for the level of welfare of economic agents. Having the direct instruments failed, the cap proposals for years 2014-2020 are focusing on the indirect instruments: producer organisations, collective bargaining, interbranch agreements, transparency of the food supply chain, market risk management. Such themes emerged in the recent debate on agricultural policy because of two facts: strong volatility of agricultural prices and a growing disparity between basic prices and consumer prices. Objective of the present work is the evaluation of eight instruments of agricultural policy for improving the food supply chain functioning, with an analysis of potential economical consequences of the various options. The evaluation takes into account both efficiency (expenditure level, simplicity of use of the instruments, compatibility with Wto rules) and effectiveness (market and prices stabilisation, strengthening of producers position in the food supply chain, market transparency). Analysis was conduct referring to economic literature, to empirical evidences coming from sectors that use indirect instruments, and to results of studies produced by public or private organisations.
