In particular, this work focuses on aspects of production and trade (import/export) sector, analyzing, through specific indicators of performance, the strengths and weaknesses that the sector has to date, and, in this case, the importance in the same role that is played from the local economy of the different favorable regions compared to other Italian regions. The basic assumption is that there are significant potential to increase the local sales performance in response to increased worldwide demand. This essay focuses on recent international market dynamics through the analysis of primary production and international trade data. The main features of industrial procurement are taken into consideration as well as the critical aspects of the upstream supply chain. The market, increasingly global but still highly concentrated, encourages all economic operators to improve their performances and, following the Californian example, to establish a dialogue and new ways of trade collaboration. This paper attempts to evaluate the problem of governance looking at sustainability in a specific case study about San Marzano Tomato, through the procedure of assessments known as triangulation. The theoretical basis of our work is the priority and responsibility matrix: the study describes phases of the empirical reasearch conducted to assess the sustainability of a typical food supply chain. San Marzano Tomato is endowed with an origin certification label (pdo), meeting demand within high-value market niches. It is a product symbol of Campania region (Italy), benefiting of several interventions of the public regional operator (genetic resources research, support for the establishment of origin certification, etc.). The proposed methodology provides simple rules to follow the time evolution of a food supply chain, judging feasible solutions to satisfy inter-dimensional requisites of durable development. In the proposed case, the driving role of the government appears as a necessary prerequisite to achieving goals of sustainability. The dramatic economic development in recent decades has greatly influenced the structure and habits of Chinese society. This although still characterized by strong disparities between the poorer classes and the wealthy, shows a growing middle class and an increasingly high-income segment. These segments of society are, as expected, evolving from a cultural point of view beginning to incorporate into the ancient Chinese tradition elements of other cultures, most notably the Western one. As was the case for other new economies, especially the rich part of the population is showing an increasing inclination towards all aspects of Western culture. This opening is also affecting the food consumption habits, transforming the dynamic and vibrant Chinese market into a major destination for European food products. The following research by submitting a questionnaire to 500 Chinese consumers residents in metropolitan areas had a dual objective. The first involved the analysis of the propensity of consumers to enter into the ancient Chinese culinary culture food products from other countries. The second was represented by the attempt to segment consumers, depending on the degree of cultural openness towards non- Chinese food, using both socio-demographic and psychographic variables. Three aspects are successively examined as regards alternative characteristics of olive oil that are proposed: (a) the label, (b) the quality certification protocol and finally (c) the respect of environmental criteria in the production process. It verifies that significant market shares belong to informal networks, which are analyzed to self-consumption, and purchase from either relatives or friends who produce it. The most influential factors purchasing olive oil, amongst others being examined, are the age, the educational level, and the placement of residents in olive oil producing zones. Regarding the wtp for different olive oil labels, consumers are willing to pay premiums only for olive oils being processed by either private companies or cooperatives, with the latter to gain 34% of them in the case they would decide to change the olive oil they usually purchase. The most important consumer profiles are that young educated consumers turn to buy olive oil from sm, do not want to pay less for sm own label olive oil, and they perceive olive oil being packaged by cooperatives as a distinct product they want to use, and pay a premium for it. On the contrary, elderly people are willing to pay less for own label olive oil. The changing structure of the incomes emerging from an increasing per capita gdp and the redistribution among classes of population and among regions (urban population benefiting more from the growth than rural) has given rise to a larger urban middle-income class of consumers. The food demand from the emerging urban middle-income consumers, combined with the gradual consolidation of the retail sector and the recent establishment and expansion of the first supermarket chains, has strong implications for the agrifood industry. Despite these rapid changes, there are few attempts from researchers and other stakeholders to study the consumer preferences in the country. Understanding consumer preferences is important not only for agrifood entrepreneurs but also for government policy makers to tune their policies and allocate their resources more efficiently in line with market demand. The objective of this paper is to describe the main consumption trends and key issues in Albania, analysis of the Albanian consumer patterns and dynamics of the last decades for the main food categories, along with comparisons to the rest of the world. The study finds that the demand toward meat, fruits and vegetables has experienced a significant increase compared to more staple foods such as cereal. The consumer preferences indicate similar features with other transition countries. There is observed an overall preference for domestic agrifood products. However, there are concerns about the perceived quality and safety of various agrifood products in Albania. There is obvious distrust in the government food safety enforcement system, while privately enforced quality and safety systems are almost missing. Strengthening the implementation capacities and improving the image of the government food safety regulation system should be considered a priority in the context of ongoing institutional and legal reforms, such that the preference for domestic produce and products increase to match consumer preferences.
