This study investigates how and why e-tailers adopt an omnichannel strategy, which roles and functions they assign to different channels and which effects derive from the adoption of an omnichannel strategy. This work seeks to contribute to the body of knowledge on omnichannel businesses thanks to an exploratory analysis based on 29 in-depth interviews with CEOs and managers of e-tailers firms. Results show that all interviewees adopt an omnichannel strategy, integrating and coordinating channels and customers? touchpoints. It has emerged that financial and customer relationship performances are the main drivers that guide the adoption of an omnichannel strategy. Findings also reveal that e-commerce, social networks and mobile are strategic channels to engage with customers. In addition, firms synergistically integrate online and offline channels in order to achieve complementary effects and thus create additional value for customers. Two are the main challenges that arise from this scenario: marketing and organizational ones. The former involves the reconfiguration of firms marketing strategies, by harmonizing their marketing and communication mix, and their brands. The latter refers to the overcoming of the traditional silos organizational structure in favor of the omnichannel one. Although scholars have been highly committed to their examination of these two concepts, a gap in the holistic view still emerges and even problems in terminology seem to exist. This paper aims to fill this gap through a systematic literature review, based on rigorous and reproducible criteria. In reviewing the 164 selected papers through a thematic analysis, the study shows that even if the terms Servitization and Product- Service System are particularly related to each other they cannot be considered as synonymous but should be considered as sequential. At the same time, the Institutions began to privilege principles of efficiency, efficacy and economicity in public action. In particular, reduction in management costs were highlighted while the foundations were laid for processes of administrative simplification and the development of the "digital State". At European and national scale, the notion of e-Government was far-reaching and inclusive of a series of policies linked to the introduction of ICT (organizational, technological, formative/performative, infrastructural and information technology solutions), in order to collect, conserve, process and transmit (textual, visual or audio) digital information. The focus of the e-Government concept targeted four objectives: 1) collecting and storing massive quantities of information within a confined space; 2) processing and transmitting information more speedily; 3) the exchange of information (interoperability) using diverse techniques and language; 4) the conservation and security of information, content and the impact of digitising modes and processes. Notwithstanding, a decade later e-Government policies of the latest generation still pivot on the delicate issue of interoperability which goes far beyond technical problems of connectivity and language. The impact of the economic recession in Italy (still ongoing) as can be envisaged, has had disastrous results on the productive and social fabric of the country. Planning to resolve governance issues in the Italian Public Administration through innovative policies and strategies of global development such as Structural Funds - Europe 2020 Strategy is vital to support the Digital Agenda, innovation and private sector industrial research while the diffusion of technological enterprise is necessary to boost competitiveness and a new culture of systemic actions to foster structural impact. Within this strategic vision, one of the core issues concerns a more virtuous alignment with European policies, well defined in the Strategy Horizon 2020, the main European Union funding tool for Research Europa envisaged for the period 2014-2020. Abstract: Based on the relevance of ICTs in actor engagement, current work aims at exploring the role of engagement platforms in fostering value co-creation and service improvement. According to Service-dominant logic and Service ecosystems view, TheFork - an application for restaurant booking - is reinterpreted as a service ecosystem embedded in a broader ecosystem. Some key dimensions of TheFork as a service ecosystem (actors, technology, resource integration, institutions) are proposed and then employed as macro-areas for the elaboration of an interview administered to a sample of restaurateurs in Salerno, Italy. Therefore, the key dimensions of the platform and the potential interaction among these elements for co-creating new values and new service features are analysed. The results of the empirical research reveal the lack of the adoption of an all-encompassing and strategic use and management of TheFork as a key lever fostering value co-creation and service improvement. Moreover, resource integration is prevented due to user?s and provider?s negative attitude that can be redefined as an antecedent of co-destruction behaviours. The identification of the main co-creation practices involved in the use of TheFork can contribute to the development of both ICTs and service research. The adoption of a meta-level (analysis of the single elements and of the interactions among them) can lead to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the study of real value co-creation activities. Additionally, detecting the existence of co-destruction practices can establish a research agenda for further studies analysing the difference between value co-creation and co-destruction and the main factors obstructing value co-creation.
