In this case, not only economic resilience is at stake, but also the adaptability of individuals and the community. Within compa-nies, routines or dynamic capabilities often form which are their real assets: a set of resources, processes and skills (such as, for example, scientific knowledge, tech-nical know-how, organizational skills) on which a company can count to cope with rapid external changes, crisis situations or negative events. In such a context, this work aims to compare the stories of two small personally managed companies - Officine Panerai of Florence and Allemano of Turin - which present strong similari-ties in their typologies of production (precision mechanics, mainly for military use) and in their evolution. Albeit at different historical moments, they have adopted very similar strategies, focusing on diversification and product innovation, in par-ticular in the haute horology market. More generally, their resilience seems to sug-gest how the fabric of small and medium-sized enterprises is one of the keystones of Italy's economic resilience, despite decades of limitations, contradictions and delays, and how this system of flexible and innovative companies is the factor which, ultimately, still makes ?the flight of the bumblebee? possible. In addition to tracing a profile of the causes and the ways in which the protests took place, these events will be placed in the politi-cal and economic context of the time in order to derive general considerations on the problems inherent in labour conflicts in the multiple urban realities of post-unification Italy. The analysis will focus on the ability of the police authorities and of the political class to elaborate strategies aimed not only at the repression of riots but also directed at investigating the origins of discontent with a non-prejudicial hostile attitude, which on various occasions allowed them to accept the demands of the strikers and to develop solutions capable, at least in theory, of improving the precarious condition of the working classes. Origini e sviluppo del welfare aziendale alla Fiat (1920-1949) Abstract: The present paper reconstructs the appearance and development of a complex of social works for FIAT employees between the Twenties and the Forties of the Twentieth century. Its aim is to verify whether the largest Italian company wanted to integrate the Fordist approach to production of means of transportation with the loyalty of factory and office workers, as well as sharing with managers values such as dedication to work and discipline. In other words, our aim is to understand whether welfare (intended as benefits provided by the company such as the health insurance fund, food stores, sports activities, and so on) was a constitutive com-ponent of the way in which Fiat listed Fordism in Italy. To achieve this goal the author resorted to the consultation of the company?s documentary corpus kept at Fiat Historical Archive. Some papers of Political Police Division kept at National Archives were examined too, as well as printed publications, periodical and not, of the period of interest. Relazioni industriali e gestione dell??emergenza chimica? in un polo di sviluppo del Mezzogiorno (1977-1985) Abstract: The essay focuses on the main stages of the long dispute that opposed the work-ers? and trade union movement of Brindisi to the management of Montedison be-tween the 1970s and 1980s. The crisis in the chemical sector and the explosion of the cracking plant of the Apulian factory - one of the largest of this kind in Italy - gave rise to an extremely serious social and employment crisis, which in that area became intertwined with the evolution of the production, organisational and own-ership structures of the chemical sector in Italy. The workers? struggles succeeded in preventing the feared closure of the plant, which nevertheless underwent a se-vere reduction in employment levels. The article concludes with an examination of the interesting triangular contractual scheme that resulted from the dispute and was designed to allow redundant workers to find new employment. However, it failed in its aim of reindustrialising the area.
