This database represents the first, and so far unique, dataset covering the entire historical period of the industry in Italy, as well as the first Italian database allowing international comparisons. First, the article provides a concise qualitative discussion of the evolution of the automotive industry in Italy since the foundation of Bernardi & Miari Giusti in Padua in 1894 up to the first two decades of the 21st century. Subsequently, it describes the methodology we used to build the AUTOITA database and its characteristics. The paper also proposes a descriptive statistical analysis of the evolution of the Italian automotive industry from 1894 to 2020 as a first example of the use of the database. Finally, the paper focuses on the challenge between Turin and Milan by discussing a few reasons that could explain Turin's leadership despite the fact that, until 1899, the automotive industry was more developed in the Milan area. Impresa e cattolicesimo negli esordi del CESIPI Abstract: In 1967, in Bologna, with the special patronage of the Emilia-Romagna section of the UCID, a number of Italian entrepreneurs and managers founded the Cen-tre for Studies and Information on Enterprise Problems (CESIPI). By drawing on the pa?pers in the rich institutional archive, this contribution intends to fo-cus on the ori?gins of this organisation, with particular reference to the cultural development un?derlying its launch and initiatives promoted in its early years. By highlighting its multi-causal approach to the study of enterprise, the re-search analyses the contribu?tion made by CESIPI on relevant issues, such as Christian-inspired entrepreneurial action, the relationship between the ruling class and economic development, the concept of participation, social reforms and the relationship between trade unions, politics and the economy. What emerges is a new chapter in Italian business cul?ture that sheds light on new profiles and the role of Catholic reform culture.
