Customers are considered not just the final consumers of a product but innovation partners. Consumers exchange their ideas with firms using predominantly social media networks (SMNs). However regardless the boost of the use of SMNs to generate innovative ideas, the involvement of these digital tools in the open innovation (OI) model needs to be explored more. Few studies have already researched the benefits of the SMNs in the innovation process of manufacturing industry but nobody has quantitatively explored these benefits in the service one. Therefore, the research fulfils the gap in the literature, measuring the relationship between users? generated ideas and the OI model in the service industry. An empirical study has been conducted on a sample of 374 small to medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in the service industry in UK. Data were collected by administrating an online questionnaire and were analysed by structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings show an academic aftermath by acting as trailblazer for evaluating the effect of open innovation on competitiveness of SMEs. Finally, academic and managerial implications were provided in addition to limits and further research. The aim is to unlock new knowledge on how customer can influence the translation of sustainable innovation within small accommodation enterprises. Among these, it is relevant the role played by "alberghi diffusi", defined as an authentic experience of the Italian life style, and recognized as an innovative and sustainable accommodation typology. The analysis is based on ten multiple case studies drawn from the Italian context. The paper contributes to a better understanding of innovation processes in the "albergo diffuso" formula and to a deeper evidence-based understanding of the role of customers in the development of services and practices focused on sustainable principles. Title: Figure of Merit for places: Perspectives on place branding Abstract: Building on the formula of "Figure of Merit" used in technology studies, this work aims at findings analogism in place marketing by presenting "Figure of Merit for Places"; the identified formula represents the possible decision making algorithm that the cluster of Digital Nomads could use to choose a place to live for a period of life. The framework is useful both to place marketers and managers - identifying value proposition and the cost-of-living and cost for accessibility - and to the place demand - discovering the benefits to choose a place to live for a period. The analogism comes from the opportunity to study the Digital Nomads (DNs) that are emerging as a maximizer cluster. They live for different periods in different territories respecting the places and diffusing traditions, cultures, impressions and e xperiences; these characteristics stimulate the place marketing activities of the territories (demand driven) and contribute, indirectly, to place branding strategies (supply driven). A comparison between coeliacs and health conscious food consumers Abstract: Healthy eating is often substituted by easily accessible snack foods that are high in saturated fat, as well as salt and sugar. By uncovering consumer?s expectations towards healthy food, this work proposes the design of a new product - healthy snack bars - as an alternative to unhealthy snacks. Based on a sample of adult coeliac and health conscious people, our study breaks consumers? expectations down into a set of themes, which represent the ideal product?s objective and subjective features. The empirical study combines two qualitative methods (free word associations and collage creation) and a questionnaire in an explorative setting to retrieve conscious and unconscious feelings of consumer?s decision making. The findings suggest that taste and social inclusion are the characteristics of an ideal healthy snack bar for coeliacs, while self-indulgence is the most salient theme for health conscious consumers. We discuss the implications of these results in terms of nutrition and development of a new product. In tourism marketing literature, researchers have analysed the holistic perspective of tourist behaviour to understand the factors that influence the level of satisfaction and the intentional behaviours. Accordingly, the paper aimed at analysing relationships among destination image, event satisfaction and tourist behavioural intentions in sport mega-event. Six research hypotheses have been formulated and empirically tested by using structural equation models (Partial Least Squares - PLS approach) on survey data from 304 international tourists who attended the America?s Cup World Series in Naples. The findings put in evidence the relevant role of the mega-event to create value for tourist in destination management. This means achieving a sustainable growth, supported by green actions for environmental protection to improve corporate social responsibility. Coherently, the authors analyzed the role of Port Authorities (PAs) in adopting a socially responsible behavior, taking into consideration economic, environmental and societal expectations of all stakeholders in port logistics and management. For this purpose, in this work was adopted a multiple case study analysis to comparatively evaluate the green practices of PA enabling a sustainable growth, trying to explain: a. if there is a single or multiple stakeholders involvement in PA?s green strategies; b. what are the key green practices in port management; c. if there is a proactive or reactive approach to define green practices. In the empirical research were selected four representative PAs with a strong attitude towards green practices - Hong Kong (Asia), Antwerp (Northern Europe), Barcelona (Southern Europe) and Los Angeles (USA) - located in different geographical areas. The existing literature highlighted some specific characteristics of the building product and their role in housing choice. This paper explores the house attributes through a qualitative research carried out by the use of some semi-structured interviews in three focus groups and, in a second phase, by the laddering method. We have chosen three categories of potential purchasers according their age: less than 30 years (20-30), between 30 and 40, and over 40. In this way we describe the different paths taken in choosing the ideal home, and the attributes, benefits and values that explain each personality. The discussion contents have been elaborated in order to obtain three different hierarchical value maps, by which the existing links are represented. Common traits in some cases and different characteristics in others emerged, providing interesting insights into the purchasing drivers, the positioning of firms and also some inputs for further analysis.
