Title: I lavoratori pi? anziani in bilico fra le capacit? lavorative ed i meccanismi discriminanti: il caso tedesco
Abstract: I lavoratori pi? anziani in bilico fra le capacit? lavorative ed i meccanismi discriminanti: il caso tedesco (di Martin Kroll) - ABSTRACT: The central focus of this essay is an analysis of the weaknesses of the current structural options that aim to allow older employees to continue working. The point of departure of the analysis is a reappraisal of the questions arising from the employment of older people in the internal and external labour market. In the course of the investigation it shall become clear that the competencies, or rather, the lifelong development of competencies, constitutes the key problem in laying the foundations for the further employment of older workers. There is however insufficient data in this field of research, since other than formal qualifications scarcely any information about employees? skills is available. Particularly in the case of those over the age of 45, one simply ?fumbles about in the dark?. When comparing the various structural options (e.g. part-time work for older people, teamwork, HR planning for the future, etc.) competency development assumes a decisive role. Yet management of competency development in the technocratic sense proves unsuited to meet the requirements for the further employment of older employees. The organisation of competency development should rather be conceptualised as originating from the particular self-regulating processes and mechanisms in question and should simultaneously be integrated into the company?s human resource and organisational development.

Title: Financial and corporate governance systems and technological change: the incompleteness of fit the UK and Italy
Abstract: Financial and corporate governance systems and technological change: the incompleteness of fit the UK and Italy (di Andrew Tylecote, Francesca Visintin) - ABSTRACT: Our argument revolves around a simple link: technological (and therefore economic) performance of firms and countries is a function of the fit between their financial and corporate governance system (FCGS) and the technological regime of the sectors in which they are operating. We offer typologies of FCGS and technological regimes. Countries tend to specialise in the sectors for which their fit is relatively good. Taking a country?s FCGS as given, its performance will tend to improve, if the sectors to which it is relatively well-fitted become more important in the world economy, and/or if in general technological regimes move towards a better fit with its FCGS. We argue that this has been the case for the United States over the last twenty years. Such a move, to the advantage to the US, helps to account for recent changes in other countries? FCGS in the US direction. We argue however that the change in technological regimes is more cyclical than secular; even now the US type of FCGS is poorly fitted to the technological regimes of most medium-technology industries. It is more important to seek a complete fit between one?s financial and corporate governance system and the key sectors in which a country is specialised, than to try to imitate the current international style-setter. For both the UK and Italy we examine the completeness of fit of the FCGS to the industries in which the country is specialised - for the UK, some high technology industries, and for Italy, some medium-technology industries. Both countries show a very incomplete fit. We discuss what might be done to improve it.

Title: Interconnessione e competizione nella rete Internet
Abstract: Interconnessione e competizione nella rete Internet (di Carlo Cambini, Roberto Roson) - ABSTRACT: In this paper, we provide an economic analysis of the market for Internet infrastructure services. Our objective is to survey the rather limited economic literature available on this subject (and, to some extent, the even more limited empirical evidence) to understand how various types of market power may hinder the current and future Internet "philosophy". The analysis provides some insights about the desirability of a possible regulatory intervention, which may be needed if the market will not be able to warrant a sufficient level of connectivity among the different sub-networks.
