Title: La centralit? delle scuole di eccellenza nei network scientifico-tecnologici
Abstract: La centralit? delle scuole di eccellenza nei network scientifico-tecnologici (di Margherita Balconi, Andrea Laboranti) - ABSTRACT: Previous investigations showed that Italian university professors are the authors of a considerable share of the patents owned by firms in science-based technological classes. The analysis conducted in this paper of USPTO patents confirms those results. Moreover, we show that the realization of patents in the context of researches funded by firms involves undergraduate and PhD students, university fellows and technicians: thus, the role of the academy appears significantly augmented.
It also appears that the cooperation between university and industry in patenting is concentrated in a few academic centres of excellence. Therefore, focusing on the field of electronics, we seek to identify and depict academic centres of excellence. By applying the methodology of Social Network Analysis, we are able to show their importance not only in the production of codified knowledge, but also in the transfer of know-how and tacit knowledge. Moreover, we confer analytical substance to the concept of invisibile college, measuring their dimensions and structural features. The centre of excellence, which is the core of the principal component of the network, gives rise to a real invisible college, in which the academic and the technological world are interpenetrated. And this interpenetration does not hinder purely scientific production, but rather it seems to favour it.

Title: Dietro l'etichetta responsabilit? sociale dell'impresa: i forti contrasti e le differenze tra iniziative a livello internazionale, europeo, nazionale
Abstract: Dietro l'etichetta responsabilit? sociale dell'impresa: i forti contrasti e le differenze tra iniziative a livello internazionale, europeo, nazionale (di Vittorio Capecchi) - ABSTRACT: The concept of Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is analysed inside the neoliberalism model and the social, economic and political alternatives to this model. The most important international and European CSR actions analysed in this paper are: The Global compact of the United Nations, the Us Social investment Forum, the Norms of the Responsibility of Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises with regard to Human Rights of the United Nations, the Declarations of International Labour Organization, the Word Business Council for Sustainable Development, The Social Accountability International Standard SA8000, The European Community Green paper and White paper about Corporate social responsibility, the CSR Europe. In Italy the CSR actions of Italian Government are criticized by several points of view: Unions, Non Governmental Organisations, social Movements and Associations, some Italian Regions with a left Government. The paper presents a typology of different CSR actions.

Title: Complex products and systems ( CoPS) e mutamenti dei mercati: una rassegna critica
Abstract: Complex Products and Systems (CoPS) e mutamenti dei mercati: UNA rassegna critica (di Dario Peirone) - ABSTRACT: This paper presents a critical survey of a recent literature, that merges different traditions of industrial economics under an evolutionary perspective, to examine a particular field of production, the Complex Products and Systems (CoPS). The great potential of this literature is the capability to analyse the determinants and the possible patterns of innovation of these products together with the institutional and organisational context in which they are embedded. This is particularly useful to understand the possible evolution of a market, like the Italian one, that is now facing the challenge of complex projects, considering also that this literature comes from the analysis of the problematic and interesting experience of a developed context like the British market.

This paper is concerned with the impact of globalisation on local competitiveness in Brenta, one of the most important Italian footwear districts. The aim is to integrate the typical industrial district approach with the global value chain approach. To understand the changes confronting Brenta, the paper distinguishes between enterprises operating in a) the top brand chain, dominated by the owners of global brands in the luxury market, and b) the high quality chain in which German buying groups aggregate many independent footwear stores. The questions addressed are: Is globalisation pushing Brenta towards new value chains? What types of governance characterise the relationships between local and outside actors? Do the chains? leaders come from inside or outside the districts? Does the integration of industrial clusters in global value chains enhance or weaken local upgrading strategies? One of the main findings is the increasing importance of the top brand value chain in the district. To be part of the chain, Brenta?s shoe producers accept a functional downgrading, abandoning design and marketing and focusing on production. Nonetheless, the remarkable recent growth rates in the luxury industry, which is built around global top brands, have allowed local producers in this chain to perform better that those in other chains.
