A peculiar trade off characterized the incorporation of immigrants in the job market of those countries: a small gap between the unemployment of immigrants and that of natives versus a huge penalization of the not few highly educated immigrant workers as regards the quality of jobs. The very recent trends of unemployment and employment rates both of immigrants and natives are analyzed on the basis of the labour force surveys. After the crisis the penalization of immigrants gets worse, although not dramatically (but in Spain), especially for females, whose labour demand remains almost steady. The returns are not so important, as the crisis affects heavily the East European countries of origin, and in Italy the proportion of immigrant workers among people in employment even goes on increasing. By contrast, a "race to the bottom" starts for immigrants, who are more and more employed in low skilled jobs. A dataset of 597 in depth interviews has been exploited in order to highlight a) the characteristics of labour contracts, b) the processes that lead to segregation and entrapment in housekeeping and care-giving activities and c) the subjective aspects concerning how women consider domestic/care work, what expectations they had before leaving their home country, and what opportunities they think they have in the Italian labour market. Shakespeare?s Othello is the tragic figure of an "immigrant" made stranger in a society where he had been successfully "integrated". Integration itself is an "umbrella concept" containing different social processes in different social environments. Social studies on stranger psychological background in migrants biographies, are presented along with very well known study cases of second generation migrants as Rushdie?s "Satanic Verses" story. The modest "thesis" of contribution emphasize that a "stranger perspective" in a social context of full citizenship system, could help to build a real multicultural society. Abstract: The paper deals with migrant entrepreneurship in the Marche Region, a topic still neglected in the current literature. The present research intends to investigate deeply the subject in the years 2000-2010 and to describe its size, features, spatial distribution and structure of proveniences. Such analysis permits to individuate specific patterns of social integration of foreign people in the area and to reflect about determinants, forms, past and present evolution of the phenomenon. The results show a still young and small presence; anyway there are interesting signals of growth and of a gradual insertion in national tissue. There emerges a very heterogeneous universe, with little shops (essentially a refuge from marginality and unemployment), restaurants (opportunity to exploit their different, always "exotic", culture and tradition), and firms that compete with natives in the open market or that are strictly connected with the local productive system. The contemporaneous presence of different situations marks a difference with other European and Italian experiences. Migrant entrepreneurship in the region is a complex and interesting phenomenon, which swings between integration and marginality.
