We begin our itinerary with social sciences, looking for useful contaminations with other knowledge domains. The socio-economic events unfolding in Western countries in the last decade stand out for their higher discontinuity with existing paradigms and mainstream theories. Moreover, in a globalised and increasingly interdependent world, causality and strictly-meant experimental rigour become intrinsically more difficult to be pursued, while newer analytical approaches better dealing with complexity are needed. We review the main themes and challenges posed to economics and sociology, while focusing on the structural crisis and transition faced by the Italian economy and society, which have gradually become a weak partner in the EU. Face to the big societal challenges of the near future, an urgent quest for newer perspectives and socio-economic policies open to interdisciplinarity arises. The adumbrated hypothesis fits into a historical context that in recent decades, especially in Europe, has mixed a creeping fiscal crisis of the states with a pervasive population aging process. While the first questioned the sustainability of welfare, the second "upset" the evolutionary scenarios of pension systems. In Italy and beyond, the double negative contingency has been met with a progressive loss of socio-welfare benefits and a gradual devaluation of the future pension of the youngest and of those who are currently employed in the middle age of the labor market. Its repercussions, as well as the production processes, are influencing the relationship between the individual and society, especially in terms of consumption, in which, for example, the prosumer is a consumer called to participate in the realization of the final products. The chosen methodology proposes to offer a hermeneutical reading of the business rhetorical contents, starting from some contributions offered by the sociological literature as the concept of social subjectivity production, and that of symbolic violence. Corporate communication uses tools from the most varied research fields, including psychology, linguistics and semiotics. The whole discussion is based on the idea that an effective critique of business communication can be made using equally hybrid instruments. The academic creation of new enterprises has attracted much attention in the economic literature, given its recent development and heterogeneity. Understanding the academic spin-off?s nature (origin, potential growth and impact) can help in understanding its role in socio-economic development. In this paper, the attention is focused on Italian academic spin-off which received an accreditation from their university. Empirical results show that the academic spin-offs are mainly "hybrid" companies, with a low need of funding and of managerial skills. The attitude to become a Schumpeterian entrepreneur is not so diffused, even though an evolution towards an entrepreneurial business is present and is accompanied by relevant relations with industrial companies. In terms of sectors, there is coherence with other empirical results: the main sources of knowledge are engineers and ICT. The success of our spin-offs seems to be rooted in the creation of links with other actors, and in the adoption of strategies that are able to connect networks of separate actors. The role in terms of national development the spin-off can play is that of stimulus and counseling, rather than becoming a direct player in production. Chi sono? Quanto guadagnano? Abstract: A higher flexibility of the organization of labor has been attained worldwide by the adoption of telework, also called smart working or telecommuting, which is a results-oriented approach overcoming the traditional use of working spaces and hours. Telework can generate positive wage differentials between smart and traditional workers, as a result of greater work productivity and lower office costs for firms, that translate into wage premia to incentivize working from home, and/or of higher compensations as a disincentive to shirking. Telework has also received increasing attention in Italy, where it is however implemented at a slower pace. In this paper, we pin down the characteristics of telework and of its implementation in Italy, and investigate the extent of wage differentials between teleworkers and traditional workers using the Italian Labor Force Survey. We find a positive wage premium for telework of about 3.7%, raising up to 4.1% for white collars. Dibattito ed evidenze recenti Abstract: Italy has not yet managed to recover from the last big crisis, and the country con-tinues to worsen its rank concerning the most important indicators of growth and socio-economic development. Looking at a long run perspective, the Italian model of economic development and productive specialisation persists and increases its weaknesses, while a few well-known criticalities of the institutional system remain relevant. At the same time, the issue of the feasible economic policies cannot be overlooked: as a matter of fact, it remains the cornerstone within the broader de-bate on the EU austerity orientation. Disappointingly, this debate is often charac-terised by ideological positions - sometimes related to mere party?s marketing strategies - thereby loosing adherence to the socio-economic facts and figures. In this work, we reconsider the debate on the economic crises and the structural de-cline, by examining a comprehensive range of medium-term socio-economic indi-cators. The main aim is to carry out a reality-check for the received wisdom, and to point to the main conditions for re-launching the country?s economy Classification-JEL: E60, F60, H60, L52, O10 Keywords: Note: Pages:77-96 Volume: 2018/1-2 Year: 2018 Issue:1-2 File-URL:http://www.francoangeli.it/riviste/Scheda_Rivista.aspx?IDArticolo=63896&Tipo=Articolo PDF File-Format: text/HTML Handle: RePEc:fan:pripri:v:html10.3280/PRI2018-001006 Number: 6 X-File-Ref: http://www.francoangeli.it/Riviste/References.ashx?idArticolo=63896 Template-type: ReDIF-Article 1.0 Author-Name: Elisa D?Adamo Title: La Cost-Benefit Analysis delle grandi infrastrutture: un riesame del Large Hadron Collider (LHC) del CERN Abstract: In the economy, as well as in quantum physics, a principle of indeterminacy (Heisenberg, 1927) applies to variables that are essential for the evaluation of investments. This concept concerns, in particular, the risk variables related to investment projects and financial transactions, which are, at the same time, the variables on which the profitability and desirability are based. Moreover, the magnitude and the effects of the risk are, by definition, unknown: this reminds the Bohr?s Complementary Principle (1928), since there is no possibility of becoming aware of such outcomes without the risk conditions to occur, and without an irreparable perturbation of the conditions of profitability, which are crucial for policy-makers. The purpose of this work is to extend and improve the Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Large Hadron Collider operating at CERN originally proposed by Florio et al. (2016), by considering the profile of uncertainty and providing a better computation of the possible consequences related to risks of accidents within the structure. The objective is to produce an economic estimate of the costs and benefits of LHC by scenario, by proposing a parallelism between the technology used by the LHC and that of nuclear power plants.
