Relazioni sociali tra scambio, dono e coercizione Abstract: Il pensiero di Kenneth Boulding, economista irenico. Relazioni sociali tra scambio, dono e coercizione - The aim of this essay is the ?triangular theory of social interactions as expounded by Kenneth Boulding. Rediscovering the theoretical reflections of Kenneth Boulding about social interactions is even more important nowadays when economists are emphasizing the role of both formal and informal institutions in economic development and growth. In fact, he pioneered the study of elements which are commonly considered in the economic theories of institutions, social capital, reciprocity and relational goods. L?algebra del "lavoro vivo" Abstract: Marx in the matrix. L?algebra del "lavoro vivo" - This paper provides a general overview on the recent interpretations of Marx?s analysis of value, money and income distribution. The paper is organized as follows. Section 1 introduces the original Marxian formulation of labour theory of value, as it is outlined in the first volume of Capital. Section 2 reproposes the ?transformation of values into production prices?, as it is developed in the third volume. Section 3 discusses the still open issues around Marx?s transformation procedure. Sections 4 and 5 provide an outline on the so called ?Single-System Labour Theory of Value? (SS-LTV), autonomously elaborated by Foley and Dum?nil since the first half of 1980s. Such an innovative approach represents a macroeconomic monetary interpretation of Marx?s analysis, founded on the rediscovery of the ?living labour? concept. Finally, section 6 leaves behind the long-run analysis implied in the SS-LTV, in order to consider the effects of a change in the general price level (disregarding wage-earners expectations) on surplus rate. Un commento a Passarella Abstract: Marx in the matrix, ovvero Marx tra il "circuito monetario" e Sraffa. Un commento a Passarella - This paper shows that it is possible to develop Marx?s categories of new value and surplus value in a consistent model of competitive prices such as Sraffa?s model. In particular, Marx?s theory is interpreted according the "Price of Net Product-Unallocated Purchasing Power Labour Theory of Value" (PNN-UPN LVT) proposed by Duncan Foley and Gerard Dum?nil. In this framework Marx?s value theory does not lead to inconsistent results. The meaning of this theory, however, cannot rely only on considerations about the formal characteristics of the model. From the one hand, some aspects of this meaning can ensue, from a comparison with the theory of "the monetary circuit", because of the role that the PNN-UPN LTV attributes to money and to ?the monetary expression of the labor time? and of the role played by monetary wages in the "circuit". From the other hand, it is important a comparison with the path Sraffa followed in developing his model of prices. In particular it is relevant Sraffa?s choice of the units of measure of labor and prices in consequence of the ?transformation? of the wage rate from a determined basket of commodity to a share of the net product. It is possible to suggest a line of research aiming at integrating Sraffa?s model of prices and the theory of the monetary circuit via Marx, or the interpretation of Marx?s theory put forward by Duncan Foley and Gerard Dum?nil. In this period the gold standard becomes the world?s monetary regime, but this political success is disputed by a considerable part of the coeval economic theory. The different critical positions showed the imperfections of the gold standard and the critical economists proposed several solutions. The most radical solutions wished a return to the bimetallic regime or the adoption of experimental system, like the symmetallism proposed by Marshall. Other critical positions were direct towards attempts of reforms, which leaded to the definition of the principles of the gold exchange standard, destined later on to regulate, without success, the international monetary regime after the World War One, and then to be reproposed at the Bretton Woods Conference and to become the basis of a long period of monetary stability. De Leon e la Industrial Workers of the World Abstract: Azione politica e/o azione diretta? De Leon e la Industrial Workers of the World - This work outlines a profile of Daniel De Leon, one between the most charismatic and discussed American socialist leaders, deepening his ideological contribution to Marxist and Radical thought in the United States between the end of the Nineteenth Century and the begining of the Twentieth Century. In particular, this paper analyzes the development of De Leon?s syndicalism theory, describing how he tried to realize it through the participation to the constitutive process of the Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) as well analyzing the reasons that subsequently induced him to break whit the same labor union organization.
