The book collects the results of several research projects held at Department ICEA (University of Padua) focused on prefabricated buildings analysis and innovative strategies for refurbishment. This work aims to suggest a methodology leading to an analysis of prefabricated buildings, focusing especially on Soviet I-464 and I-464A series (widely popular in former European socialist countries) enact a sustainable refurbishment of the buildings. The volume is part of a collection – within the “Edilizia” editorial series – dedicated to the topics of prefabrication and building industrialization in the twentieth century.

The volume challenges the topic of the hotels energy refurbishment as a flywheel for the upgrade of the building stock in the Mediterranean countries, focusing on the regions of Veneto (Italy) and Central Macedonia (Greece). The hotels energy refurbishment topic was the pretext to widen the interest towards the crucial role of architectural design of touristic facilities in the Mediterranean region. The project studied new touristic models to face the actual climatic and energetic crisis.

Il volume presenta una serie di studi analitici mirati alla conoscenza delle fortificazioni edificate in ambiti territoriali profondamente diversi dal nostro e dei loro aspetti costruttivi, per concludersi con il recupero di Forte Apollonia in Ghana, dove – nonostante la semplicità dell’edificio – sono stati toccati moltissimi aspetti, da quelli culturali e sociali, a quelli del progetto funzionali e tecnologici, portando alla luce una molteplicità di valori e di ‘patrimoni culturali’.
