The selection methods of candidates for psychoanalytic training globally appear not valid and not reliable because of errors concerning the following areas: absence of candidates’ profile; different evaluations of objective (biography and experience) and subjective skills (psychological characteristics and motivations); variability in the conduction of selection interviews; inadequate competence of interviewers; uncertainty on the evaluation skills of non psychopathological traits; differences in the idea of training; presence of elements that interfere in the selection process (contingences, conveniences, pressures); lack of controls on the selection validity; groups dynamics of the selection committees. The selection process appears then casually efficient and scarcely effective. The psychoanalysts’ selection appears as an impossible profession, in opposition with the psychoanalytic values.
