This essay presents and discusses new styles of interaction and coordination in the production of services within the so-called welfare mix. The author proposes the model of "relational guidance" to resolve actual problems burdening highly bureucratized social service organizations. The concept of "well being" has to be defined collectively by all the formal and informal members of the network, and it can not be imposed from the outside. Legal and administrave symbolic codes alone are not sufficient to guarantee the smooth and efficient functioning of social work.
