The authors firstly present a brief overview of the different models, techniques and therapeutic strategies of group cognitive-behavioural therapy, then they present the general issues of Cognitive-Evolutionary perspective. In this theoretical frame, the usefulness of group approach in the treatment of severe psychiatric disorders is described. Severe disorders present important metacognitive deficits and emotional disregulation on which group cognitive-behavioural therapies shows a better efficacy compared to the individual ones. The authors present two different group cognitive-behavioural treatments implemented in public mental health services: the first one is intended for borderline personality disorders’ therapy, the second one is oriented to cognitive-emotional rehabilitation of schizophrenic patients.
