Territorial economic structure and environmental efficiency indicators. An analysis through regional NAMEA (Massimiliano Mazzanti, Anna Montini, Roberto Zoboli) - This paper analyses the NAMEA (National Accounting Matrix including Environmental Accounts) data for Lazio region in the year 2000. The aim is showing the extent to which NAMEA is a sound basis for understanding economy-environment relationships, and a support for policy making. This is the first exercise carried out on the basis of regional NAMEA data, which are not currently available as time series as for national indicators. This study is then also an appraisal of the Regional NAMEA in light of future more extensive (panel) data generation at regional level. We apply a shift share analysis in order to investigate the drivers of the environmental efficiency (emissions on value added) gap between Lazio and the average Italian situation. Shift share analysis allows to disentangle different driving forces: structural or industry mix, differential or efficiency based, and the covariance of the first two factors. Secondly, we use information on the localisation of productive activities, merged together with emission sector coefficients from NAMEA, in order to map out the spatial distribution of ten NAMEA emissions in the Region.
