In the first part of the article the authors try to answer a series of questions regarding gender identity, trying to track down the mechanisms that allow the survival and transmission of identity (through relational processes), starting with four specific dimensions in the development of the human being: genetic, evolutionary, neurobiological and cultural-anthropological. In the second part, assuming the existence of a trans-generational transmis- sion of gender identity, the authors wonder whether this takes place within one’s home environment and how the presence of different generations in the family affects the creation of a certain development of the masculine gender, the feminine gender and the relationship between the two.
Keywords: Gender identity; attachment processes; trans-generational transmission.
