Since its establishment, NCS has become a subject of growing interest in the field of psycho-social research. Some of these contributions focused on the motivational profile of the NCS volunteer, hardly comparable to that of the now non-existent conscientious objector and more similar to "true" volunteers. This explorative study represents a contribution to a better understanding of the motivations that lead so many young people to apply for NCS positions. From an action research perspective that is intended to produce both understanding and change, such type of research can be useful for improving the quality of the NCS experience.
