The following three aspects are discussed: (1) Starting from a debate Paolo Migone had with André Green and Otto F. Kernberg on the difference between psychoanalysis and psychotherapy (see pp. 215-234 of issue no. 2/2009 of Psicoterapia e Scienze Umane), it is argued that there is no difference between psychoanalytic and psychotherapeutic training if psychoanalysis is conceived as a general theory applied to various techniques; (2) Psychoanalytic principles can be used also in the training of non psychodynamic therapists, who can be helped to see the same clinical operations or themes, often labelled with different terms, in different approaches; (3) A psychotherapy journal, such as Psicoterapia e Scienze Umane (of which the Author is coeditor), over the years can have an important role in the training of mental health professionals by selecting relevant articles with a critical approach.
