This article presents the main results of a research aimed to theoretically define and empirically apply a capacitated multimodal and multicommodity linear programming network model for the economic analysis and strategic planning of the inland distribution of containers imported through a regional logistic system encompassing both seaports and interports. The model has been employed to investigate the optimization potential for the first tier logistic system of the Campania region (in Southern Italy).
