This paper points to show both how Gestual Art works in activating an embodied simulation among users (towards the artist) and whether it implies any comprehension of the painting through the piece itself. The underlying idea is in line with recent studies stating that the activation of embodied mechanism plays a crucial role in the esthetic response. We empirically test the former hypothesis by subjecting three different kind of static images to a treatment group of individuals. During the treatment, for each impulse given by the Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) we registered the Motor evoked potentials (MEPs). Results clearly show that images concerning gestual paintings increase hand muscles excitability in the treatment group; it follows that the view of this particular paintings activates, in the treatment group, a kind of motor resonance showing an implicit comprehension of the piece. The results are discussed in the context of theories of action observation and mental simulation.
