The authors show the results of a study concerning the analysis of three professional profiles of the social field (Social Worker, Educator and Healthcare Assistant), carried out in 2010 in the Marche region. The paper focuses on training and operational practices regarding the three professional profiles, highlighting the strengths, the critical issues and the open questions about which it is most urgent to find an answer. Nowadays, professionals have a high workload and they are affected by emergency conditions with which services are measuring. What has emerged, therefore, is a precarious state of the operators that affect the quality of responses and makes the role of the professional more "uncertain", especially in the third sector. On the other hand, it shows how the law 328/2000 has given a strong emphasis on health and social dimensions of integration and networking.
