Terrorism, the long affliction of the Republic. The author reviews Il memoriale della Repubblica. Gli scritti di Aldo Moro dalla prigionia e l’anatomia del potere italiano (Einaudi 2011) by Miguel Gotor, a complex book which reconstructs the troubled finding of the writings by the Christian Democrat statesman, abducted by the Red Brigades in 1978, together with all the interests that affected them during the subsequent twelve years. The mechanism of power which comes to light is neither fully democratic nor transparent, besieged by corruption, illegality and mafia, and terrorism was able to affect it above and beyond its real strength.;
