The concepts of "cycles" is familiar to us in gestalt therapy. The "cycle of sexual interaction" describes the different phases possible during sexual intercourse. The cycle is divided into eight stages, described and illustrated in this article. The author’s principal interest in therapy is in helping clinicians focus quickly and more accurately on the difficulties encountered by the patient. Used in couple therapy, this model highlights the differences in needs or timing of each partner.
