The general dynamic of employment in Veneto over the last twenty-five years is wellknown: almost unbroken growth until 2008 then contractions and resizing. It was not a linear dynamical system: changes in the internal labour market composition were very significant. In this paper, we use three synthetic indicators for analysis: the sectorial composition, composition by profession and by type of employment contract and distribution according to business size class. The changes in the production structure also "pilot" the changes in work performance methods. Labour policies - which must and can usefully regulate these changes and mitigate any possible traumatic consequences - in Italy as well as in Europe are based on the cultural horizon of Flexicurity. On the practical side, Flexicurity looks logical and inevitable. The problem is all in the composition of concrete policy measures - of flexibility on the one side and security on the other - and the ability to innovate and adapt to the evolution of the production structure.
