From 1969 to 1974 Luciano Gallino directed three studies on the introduction of computer information systems in a big Italian public steel company. They contributed to the introduction of radical organizational innovations. The many reports of these studies (based on 323 open interviews with senior and middle managers and on the consultation of hundreds of documents) have been published only in part. The aim of this paper is to present the guidelines of Gallino’s organizational thinking in those years and to summarize the contents of his unpublished texts.
