This article aims to trigger a debate on labour in the agrifood supply chain, as well as a wide reflection concerning all the issues related to this matter. The essay identifies and defines the crucial points of the research itinerary, moving from the topics concerning the relationships between business operators within the agrifood supply chain and the criteria for the definition of the price of agricultural products. It aims at drawing an analysis of the most critical aspects of employment in the agrifood supply chain, such as the exploitation of national and non-EU workers, the false day workers, the particular application of social security rules. Furthermore, the research itinerary has the objective to highlight the solutions currently in force and those enforceable in the future, both through legislative procedures and collective bargaining, in order to emphasise the good practices and the chances to strengthen workers’ protection and employment in the agrifood supply chain.
