The article analyzes the concept of "liquid fear" in Zygmunt Bauman’s thinking and intersects it with the role that intellectuals can or could have in coping with uncertainty and social insecurity. At first, the relationship between fear, evil and knowledge is treated, on the one hand, and the theme of "do-it-yourself fear" on the other. In a second step, we take into consideration strategies (or "thoughts against fear") that, according to Bauman’s perspective, can be enacted by individuals and intellectuals (by sociologists).
