Obiettivo di queste pagine e mostrare parte della questione ontologica che emergedal dibattito sulle Smart City. Partiremo analizzando le Smart City Ontology (SCO),mostrandone i principali obiettivi e alcuni esempi paradigmatici. Quindi, sottolineeremoalcune problematicita che emergono da tali ontologie e abbozzeremo una possibilestrategia per la progettazione di una SCO capace di integrare dati provenientida applicazioni smart diverse, sviluppate sia in contesti locali che globali;
