Training processes for parenting support in prison are essential for the protection of the right to preserve a significant relationship between sons/daughters and detained fathers and mothers. The narration of the experience "Abbracciami con un libro. Percorso Progettuale, di valorizzazione delle competenze genitoriali, rivolto ai papà-detenuti nella Casa Circondariale di Lanciano" ("Embrace me with a book. Project of enhancement of parenting skills addressed to detainedfathersof Casa Circondariale of Lanciano") promoted by the Abruzzo division of the Associazione Italiana Biblioteche (Italian Libraries Association), within the Nati per Leggere (Born to Read) programme in 2019, aims to highlights the essential crux about parenting as well as the main educational-didactic features of a education process aimed at the acquisition of good parenting practice by means the communicational strategy of shared reading. The latter, in fact, can contribute - even considering constraints which prison implies - to help detained fathers and mothers to play their role in a qualitative and positive way, supporting those functions and skills which underlie a responsible and effective parenting.
