The author is the director in charge of Psicobiettivo, a review of comparative psychotherapies founded by Luigi Onnis in January 1981, that was made possible thanks to the contribution of expert friends. In this essay the author traces with emotion the events and characteristics of the first numbers of the review, born during the dramatic political and cultural crisis Italy was facing in those years. The idea was to create a space for cultural encounter, experimentation and innovation both on a social and theoretical level. This is the spirit behind the Basaglia Law no. 180 which abolished the insane asylums and the aim of the NHS (National Health Service) Law n. 833 which established mental health centers and counselling centers with psychologists. In this spirit, the purpose of the journal was to compare different psychotherapeutic approaches such as the systemic relational approach of the family, the psychoanalysis from Jung to Lacan and the cognitive-evolutionary psychotherapy. These represented the preconditions of the subsequent development occurred over the past 40 years opening the path to new approaches such as neurosciences.
