The city with an ‘S’ before. Michelucci, De Carlo, Rodari: ideas for a disobedient fantasy This text brings together three great intellectuals thanks to the coincidence of ideas with regard the themes of the city as a field of social forces. This intellectual affinity is a pretext for proposing a reasoning on three points which, their respective cultural positions seem to me highlight strongly. The first concerns the variability of the city, the role of chaos in learning processes and, as a result, the role of the project and of the designer, of cities or stories; all in a anticipation of the studies on complexity applied to the urban environment. The second refers to the idea of an open city, or a word for everyone, which underlies a moral vision of intellectual work that has to do, not with personal genius, but with the representation of a collective wish. The third one looks at didactics not as a transmission of codified knowledge, but as a path of liberation of fantasy or, in the words of Rodari, of the fantastic.
