Open Access has been widely debated in the last decade, especially concerning main topics such as juridical and economic aspect or research evaluation. Other arguments seem to be left in the background: among them, this is the case of the ease of open access in terms of the availability of scientific resources and the time spent for their analysis and study. Starting from the actual research environment, the paper proposes some critical notes on this topic in order to support Open Access. On the one side it confirms that OA, along with other freely available digital resources, makes a valuable contribution to research time-management, on the other it suggests that this is not completely exploited at the moment, since OA clashes with traditional research methods, with different strategies and organizations. This discrepancy can limit the contribution of digital openness in the short term and can be reflected even on research evaluation, without a change of methods or digitalization of printed material.
