In that long-lasting stage of transition from an oral culture shading into a culture in which reading (mainly in a loud) is common, the article point out some focuses (or concept couples) allowing us to seize some widespread expectations and even illusions about the coming of the age of writing and its effects. That are: preservation vs. waste; tradition/canon; writing/reading; pleasant/needed; conflict/civilization; forwarding/reception; continuous/discontinuous; conforming/self-forming; author's/reader's mir- ror; knowledge/experience; granted tellings/unutterable.
