Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the local plans of municipalities is a process which aims to integrate into the planning decision-making and implementation moments objectives and operations for the economic and social local development and for the protection of the local environmental resources, that is, SEA is a process oriented to the sustainable development paradigm. In this essay, this conceptual horizon is taken into consideration to describe and critically analyze the adjustment processes of the local plans of the Sardinian municipalities to the Regional Landscape Plan. The proposed discussion puts in evidence that the sustainable development paradigm integrated into the adjustment process of the plans is very effective to identify negative and positive aspects of the implementation of SEA in the Sardinian Region.
