After exploring current coexistence of the official and unofficial law in Italy, the paper describes traditional Romani law, which has its own rules, values and dispute resolution procedures. Some groups call their rules and traditional court Kriss (or Kris), but there are different forms of Romani "law" among the different groups and subgroups that make up the Romani population. The article particularly analyzes the Judecátă, a dispute resolution procedure adopted by the Cărămidari Roma, a Romani subgroup originally from Romania, which currently lives in Italy. Romani traditional courts are composed of wise men from many different Romani communities. Such courts rule in the "nomad camps" in the Italian territory, in accordance with a traditional law that falls within the legal structure of multicultural societies.
