The world in which we live is increasingly threatened by risks of all kinds, capable of generating deep anxieties even at the individual level. The basic challenges are two: the social challenge (the Other as different), the ecological challenge (the destiny of humanity and planet). The author's contribution focuses mainly on the second item, on the ecological crisis, criticizing widespread indifference towards it and on the political and media level. All this despite the highly relevant moments of reflection of twentieth-century philosophy on these issues. This guilty indifference, if not denial, characterizes not only politics and mass media, but also individual choices. Deep the need remains both at the political level and at the individual level to recover the ability to imagine a different future for the planet, all oriented by an ethic of ever more urgent responsibility in front of the spectrum of "loss of the world".
