The authors’ personal story in the world of oncological pathology first, and of disability then, wants to show the importance of an integrated vision of the human organism in the different phases of the patient care, from the diagnosis to the management of the new health conditions. In the double role of "patients" and "professionals", the authors show, following the paradigm of psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology, how important it is to set up an individualized treatment path, bringing out and implementing the characteristics and resources of that specific patient. The authors describe, in particular, how the sporting discipline of golf has allowed an important change of perspective and promotion of resilience. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on the importance of emotional experiences and the strong impact of these on the person well-being, which can also be measured in terms of symptoms presence and intensity. The authors hope the article is a stimulus for health professionals to increasingly embrace the integrated vision of the organism and care, and for patients to become aware that the healing path is in their hands.
