This contribution, result of an ethnographic research conducted in the Autonomous Province of Trento, analyses the living conditions of refugees and asylum seekers outside the reception system. Specifically, it deepens how migrants' everyday lives are affected by the environments and the material conditions of the informal settlements in which they live, as well as how they exercise forms of re-appropriation of these spaces.
