Throughout history, dramatic and traumatic events have often been the starting point for some methodological and historiographical reflections. This article is, at the same time, a review of the literature and a methodological and historiographical provocation. The purpose of this article is twofold. On the one hand, the paper highlights the mobilities paradigm is not incompatible with historical analysis. Indeed, historians interested in transport, migration and movements should well receive this paradigm. On the other hand, we want to show that the Italian social and historical sciences are a virgin ground for the spread of such an approach, since the mobilities paradigm has been largely neglected. For this reason, the article is an implicit invitation to transport history scholars to delve deeper into the methodological meanders of the mobility sciences.
